California's Vote Count Conundrum
How we should take a lesson from Florida- yes, Florida- on how to administer elections
California, the progressive leader in so many areas, is sorely lagging behind when it comes to election vote counting. It's absurd that in the world’s fifth-largest economy, we often wait weeks to know the outcome of close elections—be it local, state, or federal. This drawn-out process is a disservice to voters, candidates, and the democratic process itself. It’s high time we adopt a new system, similar to the one Florida implemented in 2001 under the leadership of Governor Jeb Bush, a bipartisan reform that revolutionized vote counting in the state following the chaos of the 2000 presidential election.
